Autumn in Herefordshire: Rain on the leaves, Apples falling in the orchard
Autumn is when the farm does its best work
Summer asks you to be out all day. Autumn gives you permission to stop. The Frome Valley turns rust and gold, the apples hang heavy in the orchard, and the rain arrives soft enough that you hear it on the leaves before you feel it. There's plenty to do here, there's just no pressure to do it.
What's happening on the farm
Autumn is harvest season at Brook House Woods. The hops come in, the apples come down, and the grapes are picked. Many of the apples go to make our apple juice provided in the cabins, so the glass in your hand by the fire has a short journey behind it. The days shorten, the woodsmoke starts, and the farm settles into its slowest, warmest self.
Journeyman Treehouse: made for a crowd
Journeyman sits in the woodland, built around a large willow. In autumn the deck is the best seat on the farm: coffee in blankets, leaves turning around you, the rain doing its work. It has Wi-Fi if you need it, a sofa for everyone if you don't, and a fire pit outside for when the light goes. It's built for the friends or three generations who want a proper stretch together, with room to spread out.
Bring a board game and a bottle. The Monopoly gets serious after dark.
Prefer something smaller? Try a woodland cabin
Primrose, Cowslip, Bluebell and Foxglove are our four woodland cabins, each with its own log burner. Light it, listen to the rain, and leave the phone in a drawer, because there's no Wi-Fi to tempt you.
An autumn break
Autumn is one of our favourite times to stay. The farm is quieter, the trails are yours, and no one is rushing away. It's the easiest time, too, for a group to find a few days that work.
